A friend at work told me about this venue in Shoreditch called The Book Club and suggested it might be worth checking out for our next get together. Nice idea, and I'm always keen to combine new books with new places, new food, new vino - so last Thursday night, off we go.
You may be able to tell from the photographs one of the major problems we faced at The Book Club. It was dark. Quite dark.
Beyond this it was loud. Really loud. Nightclub loud. In fact, I'm pretty sure it was a nightclub. Now. I don't mind a party, in fact I would say I'm quite partial to a party. But this environment is simply not conductive to a nice sit down with your girlfriends. So what to do? We scrambled for 15 minutes while we attempted to do what we normally do, but this was just banging our head against a brick wall. So hey, if you can't beat em, join em! It wasn't like there was much to talk about book-wise anyway. Got another bottle of vino and made the most of the place.
I should say that The Book Club was a pretty cool place and they do have some pretty cool stuff going on nearly every day. You can see the full event list at http://www.wearetbc.com/. But seriously, don't make the same mistake we did. This is NOT a book club venue!
