Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, by Hunter S. Thompson
Jackie's Review:
To be honest, it wasn't the easiest read, but Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas was definitely one of the most unusual and, in a way, interesting books I've read. The style of writing was frantic and furious, something I've not come across before, but was appropriate for it's genre and storyline. The themes we fantastic and extremely colourful - drugs, sex, gambling and indulgence of other types, all set in only three days - seemed to go on forever. The setting - Las Vegas - was great; it could only happen in Las Vegas.
But I just couldn't quite understand the point to any of it. Maybe there wasn't supposed to be a point. It was almost like Hunter S. Thompson has simply written down an extended, drug-induced hallucination or some sort of tripped-out dream.
I couldn't help but wonder what it would be like to read this book "twisted" - a term they use a lot in the book. I would imagine it would be a pretty far-out experience. Maybe it would have helped?
